Energy Saving Tools

The State Procurement Office requires agencies to purchase Energy Star computers and equipment, but as many as eighty percent of computers have disabled the energy efficiency tools. In addition, a large portion of computer users leave their computers on overnight. These behaviors cost the State significant dollars and produce unnecessary carbon emissions.

State agencies can save money and reduce the State’s carbon footprint by:

• Enabling energy saving tools on State computers

• Requiring employees to turn off their computers at the end of the day

• Reviewing server usage and considering consolidation opportunities
