Governor Brewer Announces Broadband Mapping Stimulus Award (PDF)
Governor Jan Brewer announced today that the State of Arizona has been awarded $2.3 million
through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 by the National Telecommunications and
Information Administration (NTIA) in order to map and plan expansion of broadband access. The funding comes
in two grants, which will be managed by Arizona’s Government Information Technology Agency (GITA). The intent
is to identify availability and speed of broadband throughout the state and where future improvements will be prudent.

Tohono O'odham Utility Authority Receives Broadband Loan and Grant totaling over $7 Million
In the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, the Tohono O'odham Utility Authority (TOUA) has been selected to receive a $3.6 million loan and a $3.6 million grant to design, engineer and construct a digital network to replace dial-up service. This project will provide services throughout the Tohono O'odham Reservation using Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and fixed wireless broadband.

the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records Division has been awarded $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce
to enhance existing facilities at 84 libraries in all 15 Arizona counties. Arizona, along with
Massachusetts, Minnesota and Washington, received Public Computer Center awards yesterday as
part of the first series of Broadband Initiative award rollouts of the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
