Arizona State CIO Resigns
(PHOENIX -- January 11, 2002) Richard Zelznak announced his resignation today as the State Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Director of the Government Information Technology Agency (GITA) for Arizona. Zelznak accepted a position with Maximus, a public sector management, technology and consulting firm.
Zelznak’s last day with the State of Arizona is February 24, 2002.
As Arizona’s CIO, Zelznak is known for his development of the Telecommunications Open Partnerships for Arizona (TOPAZ) project, and leading the path to provide Internet access to all schools in coordination with the Students First project.
During his tenure with the State of Arizona, Zelznak’s accomplishments include:

Leading the State of Arizona to a #5 ranking in the Digital State Survey for electronic government

Facilitating the rural build-out of broadband access to high-speed Internet connections through TOPAZ

Developing the State of Arizona web portal
After nine years with Arizona State Government, Zelznak was appointed State CIO and Director of GITA on April 9, 2001. He is the third Director for GITA, which was created by the 42nd Legislature in 1996. Prior to working with GITA, Zelznak spent three years as Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting (OSPB).
