11-8-05:

Arizona Professionals Flock to Online Licensing

Common Licensing System Increases Efficiency and Improves Service

The Government Information Technology Agency, through the Arizona @ Your Service (AAYS) Web Portal, is implementing an automated Common Licensing System (CLS) for Arizona’s professional licensing and regulatory agencies.

The CLS increases customer service and reduces agency costs. The system provides a convenient way for license holders to renew professional and business license(s) via the Internet.

“This Online Renewal System is a great innovation that is helping us to better serve our customers,” said Hal Wand, Executive Director of the State Board of Pharmacy. “I’m glad this system is being made available to other licensing boards and commissions.”Arizona State Board of Pharmacy is the first board to utilize the new CLS for online renewal services for its Pharmacists and Pharmacies. To date, over 1100 pharmacist renewals have been processed using this system.

Licensing management functions at most boards and commissions can be facilitated through a simple set of common business functions. The State of Arizona is using technology as a means of optimizing business functions for Arizona’s licensing and regulatory agencies. Future phases of CLS will include even more features to improve operations at State agencies.

The CLS allows small agencies to utilize a common infrastructure to manage their online licensing needs. This system builds an economy of scale that allows agencies to efficiently manage their licensees and offer online renewal services.

The Common Licensing System is designed for boards and commissions that have limited staff and computer processing capabilities. This effort complements the On-Line Registration System, in use at the Registrar of Contractors and Department of Real Estate, which is designed for agencies with robust processing capabilities.

Via these two Internet-based licensing products, AAYS provides a suite of licensing services to meet the requirements of State agencies, boards and commissions regardless of their size or transaction volumes.

Feature-Rich

Boards and commissions can customize implementation of the CLS to meet their specific requirements. The system can be easily configured with the following options:

Features of the Common Licensing System

On-line License Renewal Report Licensee Status
On-line Fee Payment Licensing Home Page (sub portal)
Change Licensee Contact Information On-Line Survey
Report Continuing Education Configurable Text Administration
Citizen Complaint Submission License Fees/Penalties Administration
Report Licensee Statistics Continuing Education Administration

Quick to Implement

Because many agencies have similar business requirements, the development and implementation cycle of the Common Licensing System is approximately 10 weeks per agency. Five agencies are slated for implementation in the next several months and include the Board of Naturopathic Examiners and the Board of Technical Registration.
