Governor Transforming State through Technology
Registrar of Contractors and Real Estate Offering License Renewals Online

Directors Cummiskey and Torres at the August 11 Launch of ROC Online Licensing RenewalRecognized nationally by her peers for her efforts to transform the way State Government does business, Governor Napolitano has embarked on an aggressive agenda for E-Government. While Arizona has consistently ranked near the top of national technology surveys, much progress has been made by both large and small agencies in recent months. Online licensing is one of the fastest growing government services offered to citizens over the internet, and Arizona is a national leader in this effort.

Governor Janet Napolitano“Online licensing offers Arizona businesses another choice when renewing their licenses. It is more convenient for the licensee and more efficient for the state agency.”
~ Governor Janet Napolitano

Based on Governor Napolitano’s leadership, Online Licensing is quickly becoming popular in the State. Since the process of license renewal is cumbersome for many businesses and staff intensive for state agencies, the Government Information Technology Agency has prioritized Online Licensing.

Over the coming months a sequence of state agencies will be offering online renewal of licenses as an ongoing part of this E-Government initiative. Most recently, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors announced the availability of their online service. This service allows Arizona’s 52,000 contractors in the to renew their licenses online.

“We’re proud to provide online license renewal so contractors can more easily keep their licenses current and focus on running their businesses,”
~ Israel G. Torres, Director of the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.

ROC follows the Department of Real Estate which has seen explosive growth in the number of online renewals since going live with its own licensing system in January. (Read More)

Several other agencies are currently offering licensing online, but this is only the beginning! The Arizona Department of Insurance is currently developing a similar application for their 110,000 licensees and other agencies are working on similar applications.

Thousands of Realtors Renew their Licenses Online

Arizona Department of Real Estate has seen explosive growth since going live with its online licensing system in January. So far, there have been over 3900 renewals processed online and over 6300 employee changes. The graph below shows the number of online license renewals and changes to existing licenses through July. Each of these license renewals represents an increase in convenience for realtors and an increase in efficiency for the state.

Online processing considerably reduces the handling of each renewal required by the Department of Real Estate personnel, which, in turn, increases efficiency and decreases error rates.

This online licensing system was developed by a team composed of personnel from the Government Information Technology Agency and the Arizona @ Your Service web portal, along with the Arizona Department of Real Estate and IBM.
