GITA Hosts Successful Project Management Symposium
On October 24, 2006,
more than one hundred information technology professionals from thirty
agencies attended the Project Management Symposium coordinated by the
Government Information Technology Agency.
The Symposium showcased best practices in the area of project management
from both the public and private sectors.
“At any given time, there are approximately 150 open information
technology projects in the State. Learning about these best practices
helps State agency project managers to keep projects on track which
avoids delays and costly overruns,” said State CIO Chris Cummiskey.
Presenters at the Symposium included representatives from Gartner,
Project Management Institute and Interface Technical Training, and ADOT.
The presenters addressed a wide variety of topics, including the
benefits of a Program Management Office, PM training and certification,
and real world challenges surrounding Project Management.
Future Project Management Initiative on the Horizon
The Project Management
Symposium is only the beginning.
Working in partnership with several agencies, GITA continues to provide
important thought leadership to the State in bringing new project
management ideas to the table for consideration. GITA is currently
leading an effort to develop a project management training and
certification program in the State.
