Arizona 2-1-1 Online
Surpasses 140,000 Visits in Six Months
State Website Aided in
Wildfire Season and Katrina Relief Efforts
In its first six months
of operation, Arizona 2-1-1- Online has had over 140,000
visits to the
site. Arizona 2-1-1 Online provides public access to a
comprehensive statewide database of thousands of emergency response and
health/human service resources over the Internet at
www.az211.gov .
“Arizona 2-1-1 Online has been widely used in its first six months of
operation,” said State CIO Chris Cummiskey. “It has connected people
with important information about natural disasters like Hurricane
Katrina and the Cave Creek Complex fire along with health and human
service information.”
Emergency Resources—Katrina Relief Efforts
Arizona 2-1-1 Online is
the first system of its kind to provide timely information during
natural or man-made emergencies/disasters, such as wildland fires,
floods, water shortages and other public emergencies. Through the use of
Emergency Bulletins and Newsflash Alerts, the system helps emergency
response agencies (volunteer, local, county, state, tribal) provide
crucial information to Arizonans during community or statewide
emergencies.
With Governor
Napolitano's leadership, Arizona 2-1-1 Online
was a valuable tool for evacuees and Arizonans to receive information
during the Hurricane Katrina response. Within the first seven days that
Arizona received evacuees, Arizona 2-1-1 Online received over 30,000
visits from citizens interested in learning how to locate loved ones,
offers to volunteers, where to take donations and steps to protect
themselves against disasters.
Health
and Human Service Information
Arizona 2-1-1 Online is
also a doorway to a statewide database of child care, health care,
senior services, counseling and other nonprofit programs, government
resources and community services. More than just a directory, Arizona
2-1-1 Online includes hours of operation, eligibility criteria, and
other pertinent information to those looking for services. Arizona 2-1-1
Online is easy to use by the public as well as tools for caseworkers,
librarians and other helping professionals.
