Governor Signs Technology Agency Extension
GITA Will Continue to Advance Innovation

Governor Napolitano has signed into law House Bill 2010, which extends the Arizona Government Information Technology Agency for another decade. GITA’s strategic role in advancing innovation, technology, telecommunications, and digital government will ensure increased efficiency and access to online resources across State government through 2016.

“GITA is an important State agency because technology is involved with so many of the State’s programs,” said Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. “From the development of the Health-e Connection Roadmap to the expansion of online business applications, GITA is the go-to agency when technology expertise is needed.”

The bill extending the agency received strong bipartisan support in the legislature.

Arizona is a recognized leader in innovation and technology and GITA has a track record of success in strategic planning, consulting, management, and oversight of IT.

Since its inception, GITA has reviewed over one thousand projects with a total cost exceeding $1.4 Billion. Currently, GITA is overseeing more than 150 projects at a cost of over $315 Million.

GITA has also created comprehensive set of IT policies and standards to ensure that agencies develop their technology infrastructure in accordance with the State vision. In addition, GITA is involved in many homeland security, business continuity, and IT disaster recovery initiatives.

Some of the significant GITA partnerships and initiatives include:

“In the next decade, GITA will prioritize projects in the areas of IT security, converged networks, and digital government,” said State CIO and GITA Director Chris Cummiskey. “There will be a lot of changes in the technology sector in the years to come. GITA plans to remain on the cutting edge of these developments.”
