Signs Technology Agency Extension
GITA Will Continue to Advance Innovation
Governor Napolitano has
signed into law House Bill 2010, which extends the Arizona Government
Information Technology Agency for another decade. GITA’s strategic role
in advancing innovation, technology, telecommunications, and digital
government will ensure increased efficiency and access to online
resources across State government through 2016.

“GITA
is an important State agency because technology is involved with
so many of the State’s programs,” said Arizona Governor Janet
Napolitano. “From the development of the Health-e Connection
Roadmap to the expansion of online business applications, GITA
is the go-to agency when technology expertise is needed.”

The bill extending the
agency received strong bipartisan support in the legislature.
Arizona is a recognized
leader in innovation and technology and GITA has a track record of
success in strategic planning, consulting, management, and oversight of
IT.
Since its inception, GITA has reviewed over one thousand projects with a
total cost exceeding $1.4 Billion. Currently, GITA is overseeing more
than 150 projects at a cost of over $315 Million.
GITA has also created comprehensive set of IT policies and standards to
ensure that agencies develop their technology infrastructure in
accordance with the State vision. In addition, GITA is involved in many
homeland security, business continuity, and IT disaster recovery
initiatives.
Some of the significant GITA partnerships and initiatives include:
“In the next decade,
GITA will prioritize projects in the areas of IT security, converged
networks, and digital government,” said State CIO and GITA Director
Chris Cummiskey. “There will be a lot of changes in the technology
sector in the years to come. GITA plans to remain on the cutting edge of
these developments.”
