Innovation America—Governor Napolitano’s NGA Agenda Focuses on Technology & Innovation

Governor Napolitano has recently made Technology and Innovation the cornerstone of her agenda as chair of the National Governor’s Association. Her Innovation America.pdf initiative has a combined focus on education, innovation and technology. Innovation America will focus on the connections between education and the economy to ensure that Arizona graduates have the necessary skills to compete for the jobs of today.

Governor Napolitano“There is a national sense of urgency to renew the educational system in the United States in order to modernize the workforce,” said Governor Napolitano. “Though many countries lag behind America in educational and economic achievement, some are quickly catching up, due in part to their focus on innovations in science and technology.”

Innovation America will:

  • Increase math and science proficiency of all children in K-12 as well as post-secondary education systems - including the graduate level - and increase the quantity of scientists and engineers who attend college from U.S. high schools; and

  • Promote business innovation broadly throughout the states and target regions that compete globally.

Innovation America builds on some of the past successes of the Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology. By taking these Arizona ideas to the national stage, Innovation America will improve America’s workforce and make the United States more competitive in the global market.
