Governor,
Legislature Promote IT Security and Privacy
At the urging of Governor Janet
Napolitano, and with the support of State Senators Bob Burns and Marsha
Arzberger, the Legislature has created a
Statewide Information Security and Privacy
Office (SISPO) within the Government Information Technology Agency. This
office will serve as the strategic planning, facilitation and coordination
office for information technology security and privacy protection in the State.
“Protecting
State IT systems and citizen’s personal information are key priorities for my
administration,” said Governor Napolitano. “The Statewide Information Security
and Privacy Office will build upon the protections that are already in place and
will serve as an important point of coordination between agencies.”
Earlier this year, GITA commissioned a
Business Case Analysis
on the feasibility of creating a State Information Security and Privacy Office.
This analysis will serve as the framework for the development of the SISPO.
“I appreciate the Governor’s leadership in prioritizing IT Security in this
year’s budget,” said State CIO Chris Cummiskey. “This legislation will enhance
strategies for improving security and privacy of State IT systems which provide
extensive services to citizens throughout Arizona.”
Job Descriptions for
Chief Information Security
Officer, Chief
Privacy Officer (Draft) and
Security Training and Awareness Manager (Draft) are now available.
