State Chief Information Officer Chris Cummiskey has appointed expert health care lawyer Mary Beth Joublanc Chief Privacy Officer for the State of Arizona. As Chief Privacy Officer, Joublanc will be part of the Statewide Information Security and Privacy Office (SISPO) that was signed into law by Governor Napolitano in 2007.

“During tough budget times, it is more important than ever to protect sensitive state and citizen information from compromise,” said Cummiskey. “Mary Beth brings to the SISPO the knowledge and skills needed to build a privacy program in the State and ensure that citizen information is protected.”

Joublanc is a licensed Arizona attorney with over 30 years experience in health care law, corporate compliance and risk management. She has extensive expertise with state and federal privacy compliance including 11 years as a registered record administrator in health information management.

“I am extremely pleased that Mary Beth will be joining SISPO,” said David VanderNaalt head of SISPO and the State’s Chief Information Security Officer. “Mary Beth will provide support and leadership to State Agencies as they develop and set privacy policy to ensure private information of Arizona citizens remains secure.”

Joublanc’s tenure as Arizona Chief Privacy Officer begins January 28, 2008.

SISPO is the strategic planning, facilitation and coordination office for information technology security, citizen privacy, and the protection of technology infrastructure in the State.
