Arizona Joins National Effort to Protect Personal
Information
Data Privacy Day Set for January 28, 2009
On January 28, 2009, Arizona will join a large coalition of
federal, state and local governments, privacy associations,
private businesses and foreign countries to promote
awareness of data privacy practices and privacy rights.
Sponsored in Arizona by the
Government Information Technology Agency – Statewide
Information Security and Privacy Office,
Data
Privacy Day 2009 will target privacy awareness and
education among teens across the United States.
“Data Privacy Day is an important opportunity for the State
to promote common sense privacy practices to protect Arizona
Citizens,” said Arizona’s Chief Privacy Officer Mary Beth
Joublanc. “This is just one of the important strategies to
protect personally identifiable information by the GITA -
Statewide Information Security and Privacy Office.”
In recognition of Data Privacy Day, a number of activities
are planned in the United States by privacy professionals,
corporations, government representatives, academics and
students across the country. For a list of activities and
Data Privacy education materials, visit the
