GITA Welcomes its newest member, Deputy Director Leah Sweet
New Deputy Director sees long term goals as priority #1

Phoenix – On May 18th, 2009, Leah Sweet began her service as Deputy Director of the Government Information Technology Agency. Deputy Director Sweet comes on board at a time of great change and innovation for the State of Arizona.

Deputy Sweet comes to GITA from American Express Technologies, where she held the position of Vice President of Technology, Strategy and Operations. While with American Express, she led the group that implemented transparency standards across the organization. When asked about her first thoughts on her service, she said, “Keeping a strong focus on a long term strategic plan, that increases efficiency and keeps the tenets of transparency at its core will come first.”

Deputy Sweet was responsible for the development and implementation of the Enterprise Architecture strategy and practice. Throughout 2007 and 2008, she was focused on the development of the strategy, practice and implementation of various Reference Architectures, Prescriptive Architectures and Standards, the combination of which created the foundational infrastructure architecture for American Express. “The addition of Leah Sweet as Deputy gives me the confidence that GITA is on the right track. Her background in IT Governance, Regulation and Compliance is an asset in the building of a strong and professional team,” noted Director Kirkpatrick.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, IA
