Governor Jan Brewer Proclaims January 28th, 2010 Data Privacy Day
The Governor highlighted the importance of Data Privacy Day in the Proclamation: “….the proliferation of information in hardcopy and electronic formats, compounded by the ease of information access through an interconnected world create a global imperative and call to action for government, industry and society to identify data privacy risks and respond proactively to counteract threats to personal data privacy….”
“Data Privacy Day promotes awareness of the importance of protecting privacy,” said Mary Beth Joublanc, JD, Chief Privacy Officer for the State of Arizona. “Arizona is one of six states stepping forward to recognize Data Privacy Day.” The Government Information Technology Agency is home to Arizona’s State Privacy Office and the Chief Privacy Officer for the state of Arizona.
Data Privacy Day was first celebrated by the international community in 2007. It was formally recognized by U.S. Congressional House Resolution 31 on January 7, 2009. Today the United States, Canada and 277 European countries designate a day to promote privacy education and awareness among all users of Internet technology.
