Communications Infrastructure Advisory Committee (CIAC)

Mission Statement

As the Communications Infrastructure Advisory Committee for GCIT, it is the Mission of the Committee to advise the Governor’s Council as to methods, processes and policies which will enable Arizona to close the so called Digital Divide as it exists in Arizona. To accomplish this, CIAC will chart a long-range roadmap and strategic plan for State-wide Telecommunications and assist in overcoming barriers to Broadband deployment, especially in the rural areas of the State. CIAC will also serve as a source of unbiased information for use by the public.

The following activities will be the Goals of CIAC:

• Establish Policies to identify Telecommunications as Critical Infrastructure.
• Help in defining a Statewide Telecom Strategic Plan.
• Provide a Center of Influence for the Formal discussion of Issues.
• Facilitate AZ alternatives for Infrastructure Funding and Financing.
• Identify and promulgate Federal Telecom Funding (E-Rate, RUS, DHS, US Commerce Dept. Grants).
• Identify actions and policies to help aggregate private and public demand for Telecom Services (TOPAZ).
• Encourage Community and Regional Telecom Assessments.
• Educate Policy Makers
